These are K-Ar data obtained on glauconite, a potassium-bearing clay mineral that forms in some marine sediment. Woodmorappe fails to mention, however, that these data were obtained as part of a controlled experiment to test, on samples of known age, the applicability of the K-Ar method to glauconite and to illite, another clay mineral. He also neglects to mention that most of the 89 K-Ar ages reported in their study agree very well with the expected ages. Evernden and others 43 found that these clay minerals are extremely susceptible to argon loss when heated even slightly, such as occurs when sedimentary rocks are deeply buried. As a result, glauconite is used for dating only with extreme caution. The ages from the Coast Range batholith in Alaska Table 2 are referenced by Woodmorappe to a report by Lanphere and others Whereas Lanphere and his colleagues referred to these two K-Ar ages of and million years, the ages are actually from another report and were obtained from samples collected at two localities in Canada, not Alaska. There is nothing wrong with these ages; they are consistent with the known geologic relations and represent the crystallization ages of the Canadian samples. The Liberian example Table 2 is from a report by Dalrymple and others These authors studied dikes of basalt that intruded Precambrian crystalline basement rocks and Mesozoic sedimentary rocks in western Liberia.

More recently interest in atonality and non-manual control has re-surfaced with software synthesis and audio computer languages. Musician-free composition As well as developing new physical interface models another channel of exploration was to use electronic musical instruments to free the composer from problems associated with performers and performance; removing the musician from the process of musical production allowing the composer to create pure unadulterated music concepts.
An exploration of the dichotomy between radical culture and radical social change: New, atonal, music was written, new types of theatre evolved and new instruments invented to bring about this utopian age; Arseney Avraamov conducted a huge symphony of sirens involving warships, factory hooters and artillery and proposed the destruction of all pianos to free music of fixed tonation. The Bolshevik government, traditionalists at heart and worried at their lack of control of this anarchic movement, suppressed it replacing it with a manageable propaganda based culture of uplifting, popular socialist realism; many of the former avant-garde were murdered, imprisoned or sidelined for the rest of their lives.
Again, this avant-garde movement was finally suppressed in favour of conservative fascist popular culture during the late s. The project is completely non-commercial and self funded.

Thus, there is scant information on the brand — mostly anecdotes in far-flung strands of the internet; suppositional at least, unsubstantiated at best. In an attempt to remedy the situation, we offer this guide to the essential information on the enigmatic brand. Gen I Seeking to compete in the market for budget-grade instruments, in , Martin began importing acoustic guitars made by subcontractors in Japan.
The instruments employed economy-minded materials like laminated woods for their tops, sides, and back, but were generally well-constructed. Gen II By , the initial Gen II instruments had arrived, and while they retained the spatula headstock and covered truss rod, they turned things up a notch by introducing solid tops. Other twists for Gen II included a line of five Tokai-made electric solidbody guitars, and the first non-guitar — the SB-5 banjo.

Return to the Main Index. Sometimes there just isn’t enough information on electric instruments and amps to allow them to be properely dated. And many people ask me to try and determine the year of their old amplifier, or to help them with the year of their older off-brand electric guitar. Since I primarily collect amps by Fender, and guitars by Gibson, Fender, Martin, National, Epiphone, Gretsch and Rickenbacker, I really can’t help them with these other less popular brands. As you have probably noticed, there is plenty of information here to help date the brands that I am interested in.
But where does that leave everyone else? Well I’m not one to leave you out in the informational cold, so here’s something that I use quite often in dating amplifiers and electric guitars.

Music stores, schools and other businesses would order a number of saxophones from a major saxophone maker and have their name put on, instead of the company that made them. A major manufacturer could also create separate brand names to compete in certain markets or may have purchased a smaller company and kept the name. Whatever the reason and for the most part these stencil horns were built with many of the features of their parent company, but the over-all quality rarely equalled that of the manufacturer’s name brand models.
The major saxophone companies that made stencils were Conn, Buescher, Martin.

To protect Clary, Jocelyn changes her surname to Fray. Clary is described as having long, curly red hair, freckles, and bright green eyes. She is very small and short, “a little over five feet” as first described in City of Bones and often viewed as younger than her actual age. In the first book, Clary is 15 years old, approaching 16, which is the age of Isabelle Lightwood. Clary is an artist, and in the first book, City of Bones, it is believed that she is a mundane, an ordinary human, as she first thought of herself.

Tweet on Twitter Mention the subject of American acoustic guitars and one of the first names that will undoubtedly pop into your head will be C. A pretty impressive achievement. Bring up the topic of electrics, and Martin is hardly the first name of recall. Most coverage of the Martin brand is focused, quite rightly, on their substantial acoustic achievements. The primary starting point for information about Martin guitars is, of course, Martin Guitars: These pickups were the DeArmond humbuckers with chrome sides and a black center in a trapezoidal hole, large pole pieces along one side and smaller poles along the other.
The D E was a mahogany dreadnought with the neck pickup and a second bridge pickup. The typical Martin pickguard had the front point cut off and a notch in back to make room for the pickups rings. A three-way toggle was mounted on the upper treble bout. Controls included one volume and two tones, with the big plastic knobs.
These began with prototype Around of these were produced.
