January 19, German Theatre-made A-2 Flight jacket This vintage A-2 leather flight jacket was made in the s, either at the end of the war or during occupation. A-2s ceased to be produced in , but remained popular with servicemen, leading to a secondary market for non-contract private production. Theatre made examples like this are rare, but were commissioned by Americans who wanted a jacket that was no longer available through official channels. It is made loosely to the A-2 pattern, with a shirt style collar secured by snaps, flapped, snapped patch pockets, knit cuffs and collar, and a zipper front with a wind flap. The jacket has a one piece back and two piece sleeves. Unlike contract examples, this one has a Prym snap closure on the windflap, which takes the place of the hook and eye fastening usually found on the collar stand. The jacket has war-time German hardware, with a Zipp main zipper with the back marked DRP, which stands for Deutschers ReichsPatent, and points to a or before dating of manufacture of the zipper. All the snaps are PRYM brand. The jacket is lined with a typically German plaid, which has been heavily worn and has been patched.

Hellgramite in the comics is much more obviously insectoid, with bug eyes, green skin and antennae. Here, they can camouflage themselves better, revealing part of their true form when they open their real mouths. Livewire appears more feminine here than her ghoulish comic counterpart or the original “Joker-like” look from Superman: Mxyzptik has been historical depicted in the comics as a short, grey haired, balding imp. In Supergirl he’s played by a relatively tall and handsome actor oddly, he’s still referred to as an imp in dialogue even though physically he doesn’t resemble the description.

Peter Hirschmann, 92, began to cry as he read a three-page letter that had arrived from Nuremburg, Germany in June. Schott-Neuse had been told that the house was once owned by German Jews who fled to the U. In digging through her family’s past, though, she found that the home was actually taken from the family and the Hirschmann’s escape was more likely in spite of her grandparents. Hirschmann fled to the U. Schott-Neuse recently learned that her family had ousted Hirschmann’s so she wrote him the letter as an apology In the letter she writes:
A leather jacket is an investment. Seriously. Leather jackets can run the gamut from expensive to thrifty, from shiny and fitted to matte and oversized. No matter what, though, there are options.

Peacoat History Peacoat around Unlike the more defined history of the Trench Coat , the origins of the peacoat are more ambiguous. However, there are several differing versions of the peacoat story out there, so I will share them here to see which one makes the most sense to you. Like many garments, the history of the peacoat may not be exact, but it has certainly left an indelible impression upon classic fashion.
Since the Dutch were a naval power back in the day, and the peacoat is commonly associated with seafaring, it does not seem far-fetched that the jacket was in fact from the Netherlands. Edgard Camplin founded a store in in which he sold uniforms to the British navy. Apparently, he sold particularly well in India, starting in Camplin supposedly suggested — at an unknown date — to create a coat for the uniform of petty officers, who had the same uniform as sailors up until then.
Personally, I find this theory questionable because it does not name any sources or dates. Hence, we also have to term reefer coat, which describes a double breasted navy coat that is close fitting and short to allow the wearer to climb the ropes. It was published weekly and in addition to focusing on tailoring and cutting, it also featured fashion trends and etiquette.
When intended for rough use, the coat was made of blue pilot-cloth lined with wool. For town wear, it was made of blue witneyor another soft material with silk-faced lapels and a velvet collar. It was tailored with or without a back-seam and with short vents at the bottom.

An Anthology of Drape, India, Archives You invited some designers, engineers and manufacturers to reassess the items you chose – what are some of the most surprising and exciting outcomes of this challenge? Of course, we expected great things from the designers and scientists we selected, but they often exceeded even those expectations.
Some of the innovations were technological, and others exquisitely typological. Others still allowed us to make unexpected connections between faraway cultures. How the Royal Family prove the fashion police control what we wear In this vein, one of the most most surprising projects was Ryohei Kawanishi’s guayabera. Ryohei is a Japanese designer based in New York. We gave him free choice of any item in the list and he picked that Cuban wardrobe staple, which he magnified — literally — and embroidered with episodes in the history of the relationship between the United States and Cuba, from the revolution of the s to the Cuban missile crisis of What do you hope audiences will take from the exhibition?
We hope that visitors will take away much of the same toolkit that they would from any design show at MoMA: With this show specifically, we hope that visitors have an increased appreciation for both the quotidian and higher echelons of fashion. Fashion is a huge global industry, and a very personal part of our innermost identities; what we wear raises questions of labour and the environment that are particularly pressing today.
